Palestine: Israeli police attack funeral of Palestinian youth, injuring 71 in Jerusalem
Israeli police attacked the funeral procession for a Palestinian youth in occupied East Jerusalem Monday evening, injuring dozens.
The Wadi Hilweh Information Center In Silwan (Silwanic) said the soldiers attacked the funeral procession of Walid Sharif, 24, who died on Saturday morning of serious wounds he sustained on April 22nd after Israeli soldiers stormed the courtyard of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, reported Imemc.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said its medics provided treatment to 71 Palestinians, including one of its medics.
The soldiers used drones to fire gas bombs at the mourners and fired many rubber-coated steel bullets and concussion grenades, especially when they entered the graveyard carrying the slain young man.
The soldiers also attacked the Palestinian Red Crescent ambulance that was transporting the body of the slain Palestinian and fired rubber-coated steel bullets at it, shattering its windshield and some side windows.
There was no comment from Israeli authorities on the report.
Israel has been facing renewed criticism since police on Friday attacked mourners at the funeral procession of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.
Abu Akleh, a veteran 51-year-old journalist, was covering an Israeli military raid near the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank when she was shot dead on Wednesday. Palestinian officials and every employer, Al Jazeera, say she was murdered by Israeli forces.
