NEW DELHI (AA): New Delhi police arrested five men associated with Hindu Sena (Hindu Army), a right-wing group, for vandalizing the official residence of Indian Muslim leader and Parliament member Asaduddin Owaisi, according to officials on Tuesday.

“In the matter of vandalism at the residence of Sh. Asaduddin Owaisi, an FIR (first information report) has been registered and five persons have been arrested,” said senior Delhi police officer Deepak Yadav. “They said that they belonged to Hindu Sena. Further investigation is ongoing”.

Owaisi, chief of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen party, wrote on Twitter that his residence was vandalized by “radicalised goons.”

“They were armed with axes and sticks, they pelted stones at my house, my nameplate was destroyed,” Hyderabad MP added.

He said the “mob shouted communal slogans and threatened to kill me,” and added that it was the third instance his residence had been attacked.

“If an MP’s house is not safe, then what message is Amit Shah sending?” he tweeted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi “preaches to the world how we must fight radicalization,” Owaisi said in a separate tweet.

“Please tell who radicalised these goons?” he asked.
