Gaza: 50 Palestinians killed as Israeli jets bomb 2 schools: 800 killed across Gaza since Sat
Palestine (Agencies): At least 50 people were killed and hundreds of others injured in Israeli airstrikes on two schools sheltering displaced Palestinians in Gaza City on Monday, according to the official news agency Wafa. Total number of Palestinians killed since Saturday is now 800.
Israeli fighter jets and artillery cannons shelled the UN-run Salah Ad-Din school and Martyr Assad Safwati school in al-Darraj neighborhood, Wafa reported, citing local sources.
50 Palestinians were killed in overnight Israeli airstrikes on Khan Younis city, Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza Strip according to Wafa.
More than 30 Palestinians were killed in fresh Israeli airstrikes in the northern Gaza Strip on Monday, according to the official news agency Wafa.
Fighter jets struck several inhabited homes in al-Zaytoun and al-Shujaiya neighborhoods east of Gaza City, Wafa said.
According to the broadcaster, the majority of the victims were children.
Two people were also killed and 10 others injured in airstrikes targeting civil defense crews in al-Tuffah neighborhood in Gaza City.
Israel resumed its military offensive on the Gaza Strip on Friday after the end of a week-long humanitarian pause with the Palestinian group Hamas.
Meanwhile, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus urged Israel on Monday to withdraw its order for the removal of medical supplies from the WHO’s warehouse in the Gaza Strip.
“Today, @WHO received notification from the Israel Defense Forces that we should remove our supplies from our medical warehouse in southern Gaza within 24 hours, as ground operations will put it beyond use,” Tedros said on X.
“We appeal to #Israel to withdraw the order and take every possible measure to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and humanitarian facilities.”
The Israeli army on Monday blew up the main courthouse in the Gaza Strip, known as Palace of Justice, located in south Gaza City.
The Israeli army released a video on X showing the moment when the soldiers blew up the entire seven-story building, which was inaugurated some five years ago, in 2018.
In the video, soldiers can be heard saying they razed the building in memory of the Israelis killed on Oct. 7 in Hamas’ surprise attack on southern Israel, near Gaza.
After the building came down, the Israeli soldiers were heard rejoicing.
Israeli Army Radio claimed that the building was used as a courthouse for Palestinian group Hamas
At least 15,899 Palestinians have been killedincluding 6,150 children and more than 42,000 others injured in indiscriminate air and ground attacks on Gaza since Oct. 7 following attack by Hamas on Israel.
The Israeli death toll in the Hamas attack stood at 1,200, according to Israeli official figures.
Almost 1.9 million people, or over 80% of the population, have been displaced across the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, the UN Agency for Palestinian refugees or UNRWA said Monday in a statement.
As of Dec. 2, 111 UNRWA staffers have been killed since the beginning of the war, it added.
The Israeli army resumed bombing the Gaza Strip early Friday after declaring an end to a weeklong humanitarian pause.
