(The Muslim News): At least 40 more Palestinians were killed and 218 injured in Israel Defence Forces indiscriminate bombings in the Gaza Strip in the last 24 hours, pushing up the killing of Palestinians to 37,124 and injuries to 84,712 since last Oct. 7, the Ministry of Health in the besieged enclave said on Monday.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) warned of the dangers posed by the Israeli occupation’s usage of a truck similar to those used for humanitarian aid delivery last Saturday during its invasion and bloody offensive against the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, which led to a new massacre against Palestinians, reports Wafa News Agency.
Israeli forces infiltrated the said camp and perpetrated a new massacre against civilians that led to the killing of 274 Palestinians, including 64 children and 57 women, in addition to the wounding of 700 others, according to official statistics.
“This endangers the safety of relief workers,” said PRCS.
In a statement issued this evening, PRCS stated that the occupation forces’ disguise as a humanitarian aid truck constitutes a war crime against civilians. It slammed it as a clear violation of customary international humanitarian law that prohibits treachery, PRCS said.
The Israeli forces deceived people by disguising themselves as much-needed humanitarian aid workers, amidst the suffering of civilians due to the severe levels of food insecurity, stressed PRCS.
PRCS called on the international community to hold the occupation authorities accountable for this war crime and to prevent them from committing further massacres against civilians, as well as to provide urgent protection to civilians and humanitarian and medical workers, in accordance with international humanitarian law.
At least 11 Palestinians were killed and scores injured in Israeli airstrikes targeting homes and refugee camps across the Gaza Strip on Monday, according to medical sources.
Six dead bodies were recovered after an Israeli fighter jet struck a four-story building in Gaza City, the Civil Defense Agency said.
Two women and a child were among the victims, it added.
Five more Palestinians, including three siblings, were killed in Israeli airstrikes on a home in the Nuseirat refugee camp and a shelter for displaced persons in the Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, medical sources told Anadolu Agency.
Several Israeli airstrikes were also reported east of the Bureij camp, but no details were yet available about casualties.
Casualties were also reported in Israeli artillery shelling east of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza.
Medical sources said that a number of Palestinians were killed, and many others were left with various injuries, as a result of the Israeli artillery shelling on the areas of Oraiba, Khirbet Al-Adas, and Al-Hashash, north of the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, reported Wafa.
The Oreiba area, north of the city of Rafah, also saw violent artillery shelling.
Two Palestinians were killed, and many others sustained various injuries, as a result of the Israeli air force bombing a house in Shujaiya neighborhood, east of Gaza City.
The warplanes also launched air strikes on the city of Deir al-Balah in the middle of the Gaza Strip, and Abu al-Ajen area, coinciding with artillery shelling east of the city.
Israeli navy also fired dozens of shells towards the shore of Gaza City, while the Israeli artillery opened fire towards citizens’ homes in Tal Al-Hawa neighborhood, southwest of the city, and Al-Zaytoun neighborhood, southeast of the city.
Meanwhile, the UN Security Council on Monday adopted a resolution that supports a Gaza cease-fire proposal announced by US President Joe Biden.
The resolution, penned by the US, received 14 votes in favor at the 15-member Security Council, with Russia abstaining.
The adopted resolution highlights the diplomatic efforts led by Egypt, the US, and Qatar, and welcomes Biden’s three-phase proposal presented in late May.
The resolution states that Israel has accepted Biden’s proposal and calls on Hamas to do the same and implement it.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday conveyed “extreme sorrow” and condemnation over the deaths of Palestinian civilians following Israel’s deadly attack on the Nuseirat refugee camp to free four hostages.
“Secretary-General expresses his extreme sorrow and his condemnation of the deaths of hundreds of Palestinian civilians and injuries to hundreds more that happened in the context of the operation,” UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters during a news conference.
