Gaza: 124 Palestinians killed in last 24 hours by Israeli airstrikes
Palestine, (Agencies): 124 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli indiscriminate bombings in Gaza in the last 24 hours, according to Palestinian Health ministry.
Dozens of people have been killed in Israeli air strikes on the Rafah district in the far south of the Gaza Strip, where hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians have sought refuge from Israel’s bombardment in northern Gaza, reports Wafa news agency.
At least 13 Palestinians were also killed and many others injured in an Israeli air raid on the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Health in the enclave said.
The Israeli aircraft launched a series of raids on large areas east of the Al-Shuja’iya neighborhood, east of Gaza City. Several people were also killed and others were injured in an Israeli bombing of a building on Al-Mughrabi Street in central Gaza.
At least 50 Palestinians were killed when Israeli fighter jets struck two residential buildings in Gaza City Tuesday evening, according to official news agency Wafa.
Several people remain trapped under the rubble following the attack in al-Rimal neighborhood, Wafa said, citing local sources.
UN special coordinator for the Middle East peace process voiced concern Tuesday about the scope of death and destruction in the Gaza Strip.
“The magnitude of hostilities between Israel and Hamas and the scope of death and destruction in Gaza have been unprecedented and unbearable to witness. I unequivocally condemn the killing of civilians in Gaza, including women and children,” Tor Wennesland told the Security Council about the situation in the Middle East.
He mourned the loss of every civilian, including 131 UN personnel, the “single largest” loss of life in the history of the organization, reprted Aanadolu Agency.
“I remain gravely concerned by the impact of the ongoing hostilities on the humanitarian situation in Gaza. The current conditions are making it impossible for meaningful humanitarian operations to be conducted,” he said.
He raised “deep” concern about escalated tensions in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
“Intensified armed exchanges between Palestinians and Israeli security forces, predominantly in the context of Israeli operations, have led to exceedingly high levels of fatalities and arrests.
“I am alarmed by the lethal attacks carried out by Israeli settlers against Palestinians and by Palestinians against Israelis in the occupied West Bank and Israel. All perpetrators of violence must be held accountable and swiftly brought to justice,” he added.
Wennesland said the “relentless expansion” of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, threatens the viability of a future independent Palestinian State.”
According to Gaza Health Authority, 19,667 Palestinians have been killed, including 8,000 children, 6,327 women; 52,586 others have been injured by Israeli strikes in Gaza Strip since October 7.
1,200 Israelis were killed by Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other Palestinians groups on October 7 in Israel and around 139 Israelis are still held captive by Hamas, according to Israeli officials.
