Israeli opposition leader Benny Gantz announced his departure from the emergency government Sunday, destabilizing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s hold on power. Israeli forces rescued four hostages Saturday in a raid on central Gaza. All “are in good medical condition” and were transferred to a hospital for examinations, the Israel Defense Forces said. They were taken hostage from the Nova music festival during the Hamas attacks on Oct. 7.
The death toll from Saturday’s raid on the Nuseirat refugee camp was about 274 Palestinians, Gaza’s Health Ministry said Sunday.
At least 37,084 people have been killed and 84,494 injured in Gaza since the war started, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between civilians and combatants but says the majority of the dead are women and children.
Israel estimates that about 1,200 people were killed in Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack, including more than 300 soldiers. Its military says 294 soldiers have been killed since the launch of its military operations in Gaza.

Israeli officials expressed concern after video circulating on social media appeared to show Israeli police arresting a doctor who was treating a person on the street during Saturday’s protests in Tel Aviv.
A video taken at the demonstration appears to show a man wearing a high-visibility jacket and a headlamp crouching to check on someone sitting on the sidewalk. Police then separate the man from a crowd of onlookers and drag him across the ground, the footage shows.

Israeli communications minister Shlomo Karhi on Sunday extended a ban on the Al Jazeera Media Network’s operations in the country by 45 days, saying its reporting threatens Israel’s security. Al Jazeera was among few international broadcasters providing largely uninterrupted coverage of the Gaza war.
