Israel’s war on Gaza live: Hamas views Biden’s truce offer ‘positively’
Hamas says it regards President Joe Biden’s ceasefire proposal “positively”, raising hopes of a halt to Israel’s eight-month war that has killed more than 36,000 Palestinians – mostly children and women.
The United States president says the new Israeli proposal for a Gaza truce is “a roadmap to an enduring ceasefire and the release of all hostages”, adding that “it’s time to end this war”. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
The Israeli military has named three Hamas members it “eliminated” in airstrikes over the past week.
In a situational update, the army said fighter jets on Thursday had hit central Gaza and killed Mansour Adil Mansour Kashlan, who they said was involved in coordinating “terror attacks” in Israel and the occupied West Bank.
Also in central Gaza, Walid Abed Abu Dalal, who reportedly served as the head of the technology department in Hamas’s internal security forces, was killed.
The army said Hamas’ technology department and internal security forces “comprise a significant part of Hamas’ counter-espionage and the ability to attack IDF troops in the Gaza Strip”.
In the Nuseriat area, the army announced it killed Tareq Darwish, a key “operative in Hamas’s Aerial Array of the Nuseriat Battalion,” on Friday.
“Darwish directed and carried out terror attacks against Israel. His elimination took place following Hamas Aerial Array’s terrorist activity over the past month, including attempts to impede IDF aerial operations,” the army said.
Netanyahu insists on ‘Hamas destruction’ as part of Israeli plan to end war on Gaza
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insists on Hamas’s destruction as part of an Israeli plan presented by US President Joe Biden to end the war on Gaza.
“Israel’s conditions for ending the war have not changed: the destruction of Hamas’s military and governing capabilities, the freeing of all hostages and ensuring that Gaza no longer poses a threat to Israel,” the Israeli leader said in a statement.

‘Major contradiction’ from the US and Israel on latest truce proposal
While Biden talked about Israel withdrawing from more populated areas of Gaza, Abdullah al-Arian, professor of history at Georgetown University, Qatar, says it isn’t known if there is an acknowledgement from the US that Israel will remain occupying parts of Gaza even after the ceasefire is reached.
“I think this is a major sticking point and one that Palestinians have continuously rejected that any part of Gaza should remain occupied,” he told Al Jazeera.
“There’s a major contradiction here and the fact that both the US and the Israeli side have said on the one hand, that they don’t want a future in Gaza in which Hamas has any kind of political role left.
“At the same time, this is an agreement that would have to be reached through negotiations with Hamas, so, how do you do that? How do you eliminate them as a political force and at the same time reach a negotiated solution that is agreed upon by all parties?”
