Israeli airstrikes kill dozens in Gaza and Yemen

London, (The Muslim News, Anadolu Agency, Al Jazeera,): At least 26 Palestinians, including eight children, were killed and 81 others injured on Sunday in a series of Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip, while Israeli warplanes also launched attacks on Yemen’s Al-Ḥudaydah province, widening the regional scale of the conflict. The overall Palestinians killed since Israel began its military campaign on Gaza Strip since October 2023 now stands at 52,829, with the number of injured exceeding 119,500. “Many victims are still trapped under the rubble and on the roads as rescuers are unable to reach them,” the Health Ministry said.
In central Gaza’s Deir al-Balaḥ, two civilians were killed and several others wounded when an Israeli drone targeted a group of people, a medical source told Anadolu Agency. Two additional fatalities were reported in the same city—one in another drone strike and another from injuries sustained in an earlier attack.
In the southern city of Khān Yūnis, a man and his son were killed when a strike hit a tent sheltering displaced civilians.
A separate drone attack on the western outskirts of the city killed four more, including two children. Another tent near Asdāʾ in the Al-Mawāsi area was hit shortly afterwards, also killing four people, again including two children. A third tent nearby was targeted, killing a child, while a young man was killed in a drone strike while riding a bicycle in the vicinity.
Eyewitnesses reported intense artillery shelling and gunfire in eastern Khān Yūnis, particularly around the town of ʿAbasān al-Kabīra. In Gaza City, a Palestinian child was killed in an Israeli artillery strike, while another civilian was seriously injured in an attack on Jabalīyah in the north.
Four more people died in an airstrike targeting a vehicle in Khān Yūnis, while five others, including a young girl, were killed in a separate strike in Gaza City, according to medical sources and witnesses. The Israeli army also continued demolishing residential buildings in eastern Gaza City amid ongoing air and artillery bombardment of the Al-Tuffāḥ district.
Two civilians were injured in an airstrike on a mosque on Old Gaza Street in Jabalīyah, local medics reported.
Since resuming its assault on March 18 — following the collapse of a ceasefire due to Israel pulling out of agreement, and prisoner exchange agreement — Israel has killed 2,720 Palestinians and wounded more than 7,500.
In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, citing alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity during the offensive in Gaza.
Meanwhile, Israeli fighter jets launched multiple air raids on Yemen’s western Al-Ḥudaydah province on Sunday. The strikes were reported by 26 September, a media outlet affiliated with the Ḥouthī-controlled Defence Ministry, which cited an unnamed security source. “Israeli aggression aircraft launched multiple air raids on Al-Ḥudaydah Province,” the source was quoted as saying. No casualty figures were immediately available.
The bombardment followed a warning issued by the Israeli military, urging civilians to evacuate three Red Sea ports—Ras ʿĪsā, Al-Ḥudaydah and Ṣalīf—claiming they were being used for military operations by the Ḥouthīs [Ansar Allah]. “This is an urgent and important warning,” said Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee. “Due to the Ḥouthī regime’s use of these ports for its operations, we urge everyone in these areas to evacuate immediately to ensure your safety.” The warning will remain in effect until further notice.
The latest strikes come days after the Ḥouthīs fired a hypersonic missile at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport, reportedly injuring eight people. In retaliation, Israeli warplanes carried out extensive attacks on the Yemeni capital Ṣanʿāʾ, striking civilian infrastructures – the international airport, electricity infrastructure, and a cement factory. The Ḥouthīs reported that those strikes killed seven and wounded 94 others.
Though the United States brokered a ceasefire agreement with the Ḥouthīs via Oman, the group stated that the agreement does not include Israel. Spokesperson Muḥammad ʿAbd al-Salām said attacks against Israeli targets resumed after Israel imposed a total blockade on Gaza and restarted military operations in March.
The Ḥouthīs have been targeting commercial shipping in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Gulf of Aden since November 2023 in what they describe as support for Palestinians. According to Palestinian officials, Israeli attacks have now killed more than 52,800 people in Gaza, including 57 who starved to death under Israel’s siege imposed on March 2.
