Iraq: Car bomb in Basra kills 7 civilians
(Agencies): At least seven civilians were killed and 25 injured in a car bomb explosion Tuesday in the southern Iraqi province of Basra, a local security official said.
The explosion took place in front of a restaurant that is located near Republic hospital in the city center, the TV channel al-Sumaria has reported.
Governor of Basra, Asaad Al Idani told reporters that it was a motorcycle rigged with explosives.
“The blast carries fingerprints of Daesh (Islamic State),” Al Idani said.
The governor also declared three days of mourning following the terrorist attack.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
Since the defeat of the Daesh terrorist group in 2017, explosions have been rare in Iraq’s oil-rich Basra.
