Illegal Israeli settlers threaten Palestinians with new ‘Nakba’ in West Bank

By Nadine Osman

London,  (The Muslim News): Illegal Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank threatened the Palestinians on Thursday with a second “Nakba,” implying that they would be driven from their land again as in 1948.

As per the demands of settlers, Palestinian farmers in Deir Istiya village, near Salfit province in the northern West Bank, were asked to leave their houses and communities and move to Jordan.

Palestinian News & Information Agency-WAFA quoted from an Arabic-language pamphlet that settlers would commit violent attacks if they didn’t comply with the demand.

Commenting on the threats, the village’s mayor, Firas Diyab, said the threats are clearly visible to all, urging people to remain vigilant.

The “Nakba or Catastrophe” is the event by which nearly 800,000 Palestinians were forcibly expelled from their homes and lands in 1948 after the founding of Israel.

The conflict in Gaza began when Hamas initiated Operation Al-Aqsa Flood – a multi-pronged surprise attack on October. 7 that included a barrage of rocket launches and infiltrations into Israel by land, sea, and air.

Hamas said the incursion was in retaliation for the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and growing violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians.

The Israeli military then launched a relentless bombardment of Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip.

At least 7,028 Palestinians and 1,400 Israelis have been killed in the conflict.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health reports 110 Palestinians killed and 1,900 injured by Israeli forces since Oct. 7 in the West Bank.
