Gaza: 54 Palestinians killed, 102 injured by Israeli bombardments last 48hrs

Gaza City, (Al Jazeera, Wafa, AA): Between the afternoons of 1 and 3 May, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH) in Gaza, 54 Palestinians were killed and 102 others injured by indiscriminate bombings by Israeli Defence Forces in Gaza Strip. This brings to the total Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in Gaza Strip since 7 October 2023 to at least 34,622, including 14,944 children and 9,849 women, and 77,867 others injured, according to MoH in Gaza. New figures show nearly 10,000 Palestinians are either missing or trapped under the rubble due to Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7 last year, according to local authorities in the Palestinian enclave.

About 30 children have so far died due to malnutrition and fluid loss in the blockaded territory, it noted.

The Israeli army has used more than 75,000 tons of explosives since the ongoing offensive began, the statement said, adding that some 492 healthcare workers and 68 civil defense personnel have been killed in attacks targeting Gaza’s health sector.

The bodies of 471 Palestinians have been unearthed from six mass graves in hospitals raided by Israeli soldiers, said the media office.

It also said that nearly 11,000 injured are in critical condition and require treatment abroad, while 10,000 cancer patients are at risk of dying due to insufficient health care.

Doctors in Gaza have diagnosed about 1.095 million cases of infectious diseases and more than 20,000 cases of Hepatitis A, the statement said, pointing to the mass displacement of civilians caused by the Israeli offensive.

Some 60,000 pregnant women are at risk due to lack of health care, as are 350,000 people suffering from chronic diseases due to medication shortages, according to the statement.

Meanwhile, several Palestinians waiting for aid were killed and injured on Friday when an aid pallet airdropped on the northern Gaza Strip fell without its parachutes opening, Gaza’s Civil Defense Agency said.

“The falling of an aid pallet from the air directly onto a group of citizens in the northern part of the Strip led to the deaths and injuries of several people,” the agency’s spokesperson, Mahmoud Basal, said in a statement.

Basal, however, did not specify the number of casualties.

Similar incidents in the past have resulted in the deaths and injuries of a significant number of people in Gaza.

Since the Israeli army began its attacks, it had detained more than 5,000 Palestinians in Gaza, it added.

Israeli soldiers have detained 310 healthcare workers and 20 journalists, while 2 million people out of Gaza’s 2.3 million population have been displaced, the statement stressed.

Israel’s attacks have so far directly caused $33 billion of damage in the Gaza Strip, it said.

This pattern of killing entire families is nothing new after nearly seven months of war. Entire families have been obliterated in Israeli air strikes.

Seven people – a mother and her children – were killed earlier today.  The children’s bodies arrived in plastic bags. They were shredded in the air strike on the home. The only survivor of the attack is the father.

Just in the past 30 minutes, there was a strike on the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.

At least six civilians, predominantly children and women, were killed and others injured last night in an Israeli airstrike which targeted a building in Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, according to local sources.

The sources reported that Israeli warplanes bombarded a residential building in the Al-Zuhur neighborhood of Rafah, resulting in the murder of six civilians and injuring several others.

Additionally, multiple civilians were wounded in an Israeli airstrike that hit a house in the Tel al-Sultan neighborhood, west of Rafah. Meanwhile, nine more civilians were injured in another Israeli strike on the Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip.

At least four children among seven Palestinians were killed and several others were injured in an Israeli raid targeting a house in the city of Rafah, southern Gaza Strip, medical sources told Anadolu on Friday.

The victims were said to be from the Shaheen family, and lived in the Al-Zuhur neighborhood.

More than 10,000 women were killed in the ongoing Israeli onslaught on the besieged Gaza Strip, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) said on Friday.

In a statement, the agency said: “The war in Gaza continues to be a war on women.”

“Over 10,000 women have been killed and 19,000 injured,” it added.

The agency also said: “37 children lose their mother every single day.”

It stressed that “conditions are appalling,” noting that “over 155,000 pregnant or breastfeeding women faced with severely limited access to water and sanitary items.”

According to the Israeli government, 1,139 Israelis were killed by Hamas on October 7 in southern Israel, and 134 Israelis and foreign nationals are still detained by Hamas in Gaza.
