Officials said these flags are posted due to several reported shark attacks Friday afternoon in the waters of nearby Walton County.

Bay County officials have learned that bait fish are schooling near the shore at this time of year which may have been a contributing factor in the attacks. Sheriff Tommy Ford has been in conversation with Florida Wildlife Conservation, according to a news release.

In coordination with Bay County and Panama City Beach officials, on Saturday the BCSO will post single red flags and purple flags on the beaches of Bay County.

Purple flags indicate the presence of dangerous marine life and single red flags indicate high hazard conditions.

Bay County Sheriff’s Office said residents and visitors are encouraged to use the utmost caution when deciding to enter the water or permitting children to enter the Gulf this weekend.

With an anticipated active hurricane season, state officials are urging Florida residents to check their insurance policies.

Florida’s Insurance Commissioner Michael Yaworsky spoke to members of the Bay County Chamber of Commerce Friday morning and said the insurance market is slowly becoming better for consumers.

“We’ve approved 15 companies that asked for a 0% rate increase this past year, which may or may not be in their universe or there may be another company that is offering that kind of opportunity. There are another ten companies that have asked for a decrease. So you’re talking to your agent, and shopping around is always good,” Yaworsky said.

State officials said they are committed to protecting Florida residents from insurance scams.

“We keep a very close eye on the regulation and the way they’re behaving. We just recently fined a company $1,000,000 for the way they handled Hurricane Ian’s claims. And we’re going to stay on top of it. We want to have a good regulatory environment to encourage new companies to come in. But we also want to make it clear that they need to uphold their promises,” Yaworsky said.

As people prepare for hurricane season, an important item on that checklist is making sure your insurance policy is up to date.

“Keep an eye on the last time the total value of their home was updated to make sure that they have adequate coverage in place. They need to keep an eye out for any deductibles that may have slipped in and make sure they’re comfortable with those,” Yaworsky added.

“There is a sales tax holiday on hurricane supplies. It ends on June the 14th. You can go to prepare fl dot com and you can see a full list of what those sales tax exemptions are. Also, if you’re contemplating replacing your windows and doors at your house or even your garage door, you’ve got a sales tax exemption on those that end on June the 30th,” Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis said.

Officials said if you notice anything concerning about your insurance policy talk to your agent, call the CFO’s consumer services hotline at 1-877-MY-FL-CFO, or visit their website. tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc tyc
