Released Israeli hostage tells BBC she ‘no longer believes in peace’
Ada Sagi, kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Oz during Hamas’ attack on October 7, says she no longer believes in peace in an interview with BBC.
“”I don’t believe in peace, I don’t, sorry,” Sagi, who was released after 53 days in captivity, said. “I understand Hamas don’t want it.” Sagi taught arabic for several decades in an attempt to teach Israelis to speak with Gaza’s residents.
“I lost my home. I lost my freedom – the whole place that I [have] to go back. Our village – kibbutz – is destroyed,” she said.
Sagi recounted how she was initially taken along with other hostages to an apartment with children in it, and was later taken to another apartment in Khan Yunis. She says the man who owns the apartment worked as a nurse and said his wife and children were sent off to live with relatives.
“I heard them say … 70 shekels for a day,” she said, referring to students which were tasked with guarding her. “It’s a lot of money in Gaza because they have no work. And if you have work not with Hamas, it’s no more than 20 shekels for a day,” she said.
