UK: Eid Al Adha messages from Political leaders
Eid Al-Adha messages from political leaders
Rt Hon Sir Keir Starmer MP, Leader, Labour Party
On behalf of the Labour Party, I want to send my very best wishes to the Muslim community over Eid al-Adha.
This holy festival is a chance for families, friends and neighbours to come together. Both to celebrate with loved ones and to reflect on the values of sacrifice, service and compassion.
I know that this year, in an increasingly unstable world, many people celebrating Eid al Adha will be thinking of those who are unable to celebrate due to conflict – particularly the intolerable situation in Gaza.
I continue to stand by my words: this is unbearable. This war must stop now. And once that is achieved, we must build a just and lasting peace out of the horrors of this conflict.
Here at home, I want to pay tribute to the work of the Muslim community across Britain, not just this week, but all year round. And I send my support to all those British Muslims who are celebrating and performing Hajj.
With an election just a few weeks away, our nation faces a choice over its future. My Labour Party will work in partnership with all faith communities, including the Muslim community, to realise our ambition of national renewal. We will continue our dialogue with the community, working together to tackle issues like community safety, health outcomes and childcare.
If we are privileged to serve in government, we will bring forward the change our communities deserve. We will turn the page on years of division and decline with our ambitious, credible manifesto for change. We will deliver a brighter, more prosperous future for every community across Britain.
On behalf of the Labour Party, Eid Mubarak!
Sir Ed Davey MP, Leader, Liberal Democrats
On behalf of the Liberal Democrats, I am pleased to wish Eid Mubarak to Muslims in the UK and around the world celebrating Eid al-Adha today.
As people across the UK vote to decide what the future will look like, it is a poignant moment to reflect upon the values of Eid al-Adha – sacrifice, selflessness and caring for others.
British Muslims up and down the country embody these values and support their communities in incredible ways.
This holy celebration is an important time to come together with loved ones. But I know that for many, these past few months have been challenging. We have witnessed a disturbing rise in Islamophobia at home, alongside terrible human tragedy in the Middle East.
I believe that ultimately, the values of Eid al-Adha will provide us with the resolve we need to face these challenges.
May today bring all those who celebrate peace and joy. Eid Mubarak!”
Rt Hon John Swinney MSP, First Minister of Scotland and Leader of Scottish National Party
To Muslims everywhere – I wish you a blessed Eid ul-Adha.
However, I must pause and take a thought for Muslims who may not be having the joyous Eid ul-Adha celebrations that so many of you are, and for those people who are suffering I wish wholeheartedly for happier times ahead.
Rt Hon Vaughan Gething MS, First Minister of Wales
A blessed Eid al-Adha to Muslim communities throughout Wales, across the UK and around the World.
This significant celebration is a time for reflection, sacrifice, and gratitude, reminding us of the importance of compassion, unity, and shared humanity. I hope everyone is able to enjoy time with their loved ones as communities come together, share food and gifts and celebrate as one.
From my family to yours, Eid Mubarak.
Rt Hon Sadiq Khan, The Mayor of London
I would like to wish all readers of the Muslim News a happy, peaceful and prosperous Eid al-Adha.
As the Hajj pilgrimage period draws to a close, we join with our family, friends, and loved ones to reflect on the sacrifice made by Prophet Ibrahim (AS).
Charity, connection and community are the heart of this Eid and are values that we all hold dear as Londoners.
Sadly, there are many Londoners who are struggling in the face of the rising cost of living, and I am always humbled by the generosity shown to those in need on this special occasion and throughout the year.
For many Muslims, events overseas will be casting a long shadow over the usual celebrations. The scenes we’ve witnessed in Gaza over the last eight months have been utterly horrific, heart-breaking and unacceptable. As Mayor, I’ll continue to speak up in support of peace and justice and an immediate ceasefire.
However you are celebrating, from my family to yours, I wish you all a very happy Eid Mubarak!
