Gaza: 67 Palestinians killed, 106 injured by Israeli forces last 24 hours
Gaza City, (OCHA, Wafa, Al Jazeera): As month of Ramadan begins, Israel continues slaughter of Palestinians and is preventing food, water and fuel to reach the starving Palestinians as the world looks on refusing a ceasefire to stop the killings.
67 Palestinians have been killed and 106 others injured by Israeli indiscriminate bombing in Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH). At least 31,112 Palestinians have been killed and 72,760 others have been injured, of whom 72 per cent are women and children, since 7 October, according to MoH in Gaza.
Antonio Guterres has called for a truce in the war in the Gaza Strip as Ramadan begins, but falls on deaf ears.
“Yet even though Ramadan has begun – the killing, bombing and bloodshed continue in Gaza,” the UN secretary-general told reporters.
Guterres also called for the release of captives held by Hamas and the removal of “all obstacles to ensure the delivery of lifesaving aid at the speed and massive scale required” in Gaza, where the UN has warned that a quarter of the population is on the brink of famine.
“International humanitarian law lies in tatters,” Guterres told reporters, warning that the “threatened Israeli assault on Rafah could plummet the people of Gaza into an even deeper circle of hell”.
The death toll from malnutrition and dehydration has risen to 25, including 21 children, according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza.
The Gaza Strip, especially the northern region, is grappling with severe shortages in food, water, medication, and fuel. Even the aid reaching the southern region of the enclave has been insufficient, particularly with the displacement of over 1.3 million people from northern Gaza to the south, notably to Rafah.
The Israeli occupation forces not only prevent the entry of humanitarian aid into northern Gaza but also intentionally target citizens as they await the arrival of desperately needed aid supplies. This has resulted in the tragic killing of hundreds of civilians and injuries to many more.
The World Health Organization has warned that malnutrition is particularly exacerbated in the northern region, where infrastructure destruction and shortages in water, food, and medication have prevailed since the beginning of the ongoing Israeli aggression.
