8 people shot at splash pad in Rochester Hills, shooter dead

The suspect in the Rochester Hills splash pad shooting that injured 9 people has been found dead according to WDIV out of Detroit.

The shooting happened Saturday evening at Brooklands plaza splash pad, in Rochester Hills.

The Rochester Hills Police Department first reported the shooting in a Facebook post around 7 p.m. saying “There are multiple people injured.” . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Then around 7:15 p.m. the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said on their Facebook page “That is still an active crime scene and we potentially have the suspect contained nearby, but we asked for the moment people stay away from the area.”

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard says that the shooting appears to be random.

The conditions of the victims are not yet known.

According to WDIV, the shooter was cornered at a mobile home park in Shelby Township for several hours after the shooting before he killed himself. The identity of the shooter has yet to be released but was known to the police.

According to Bouchard, the shooter appears to have fired 28 times. Police say they have recovered a handgun.

Nine people were injured after a man opened fire at Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Rochester Hills on Saturday evening, officials say.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said the injuries and conditions of the victims are as follows:

8-year-old boy in critical condition
4-year-old boy in stable condition
39-year-old in critical condition
39-year-old woman in stable condition
30-year-old woman in stable condition
30-year-old man in stable condition
78-year-old man in stable condition
37-year-old woman in stable condition
40-year-old man in stable condition
He said that some of the victims were part of the same family.

Officials believe the shooting at the splash pad appeared to be random.

“It’s a gut punch … we’ve gone through so many tragedies,” said Sheriff Bouchard.

Bouchard said law enforcement was able to track the suspect to a residence in Shelby Township. SWAT attempted to make contact, but later officials found that the suspected shooter was deceased.

The suspected gunman died by suicide, police say.

According to Bouchard, the 42-year-old suspect had no criminal history and was living with his mother.

Bouchard said the shooting victims are being treated in four nearby hospitals.

Corewell Health released the following statement on Saturday evening: “Our hearts are with those who were impacted by the shooting that occurred in Rochester Hills. “It’s heartbreaking … complete thoughts with the families right now,” said Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan K. Barnett.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said she is in touch with local officials and is monitoring updates as they come in.
