14 detained in Bengaluru for participating in pro-Palestine rally

The Karnataka Police on Sunday detained 14 detained for allegedly holding an event in support of Palestine in Bengaluru. More than 100 people had gathered in Frazer Town under the banner ‘Bengaluru with Gaza’ on Sunday evening.

According to one of the attendees, cops dressed in civil clothes appeared at the event and began questioning them. When they told about the purpose of the event, the policemen manhandled them and tried to disperse the crowd.

While the majority of the crowd left, some of the attendees who argued with the police detained.

The police said an FIR lodged against the organisers for violating Karnataka High Court directions that prohibit protests in the city anywhere except the Freedom Park.

14 detained at Festive offer

Another FIR registered against the organisers for allegedly obstructing government servants from discharging their duty.

The police said the organisers had plans to distribute pro-Palestine pamphlets and posters in the vicinity, while the organisers have denied the charge.

Several people, including students, detained on Sunday, 2 June in Bengaluru for trying to create awareness about the ongoing tragedy in Palestine. People present at the event have also accused the police officials of manhandling people.

This took place at Bengaluru’s Frazer Town, where Pulikeshinagar PS detained about 15 people for gathering without getting prior permission. While police officials have said that women police constables were present at the scene when women detained, sources that South First spoke to said that that wasn’t the case.

“At least 15 people including five women have detained for holding a pro-Palestine awareness event in Frazer Town. Detained people manhandled by the police and no women police constables were present while taking women into preventive custody,” people from the protest said.
