(The Muslim News): Seven Palestinians, including a child, have been killed by Israeli occupation forces (IOF) in just over a month into the New Year, reports the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR). Sixty-nine others, including 11 children, two paramedics and six journalists, have also been wounded in the West Bank, including in Occupied East Jerusalem.
Two of the Palestinian fatalities, including that of a child, occurred in just a week (February 10 – 16).
According to the PCHR a whopping 837 incursions were conducted in a month and a half by the IOF into the West Bank, during which 522 Palestinians were arrested, including 49 children.
Palestinians also continue to be targeted by illegal Israeli settlers. So far this year, settlers have carried out 31 attacks against Palestinians and their properties in the West Bank.
This week, 12 settler attacks were reported in the West Bank, resulting in the uprooting of 375 Palestinian olive trees. Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood witnessed wide-scale violence by settlers over the 6 days of this week, particularly in Salem Family house area.
On February 11, ten Palestinians, including two children and a paramedic, sustained rubber-bullet wounds in an IOF attack on the weekly protest against settlement activity in Qaddoum village, Qalqiliya.
Three Palestinians sustained wounds, including a child and a female journalist who sustained sound bomb wounds, in IOF’s suppression of a peaceful protest in Bita village against the establishment of “Evytar” settlement outpost in Nablus.
A Palestinian was wounded in the suppression of Kafr Qaddoum weekly protest against settlement activity in Qalqiliya on February 12.
The following day, a Palestinian child was killed, and six others were wounded during an IOF raid into Silat al-Harithiya village, western Jenin. A paramedic and a journalist sustained rubber bullet wounds when IOF fired at them to defend a mob of illegal settlers, who launched wide-scale attacks and seized a plot of land in Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood in occupied East Jerusalem.
On February 14, IOF attacks continued in the same neighbourhood, resulting in the injury of a photojournalist who was struck with batons while two brothers were arrested.
Land razing and demolitions have also continued to spiral.
Since the beginning of 2022, Israeli occupation forces have made 25 families (151 people) homeless, including 65 children, following the demolition of 33 homes and three residential tents. IOF also delivered 12 demolition notices, cease-construction, and evacuation.
