Libya: 20 migrants found dead in the desert
TRIPOLI, Libya (AA): Twenty bodies for people believed to be migrants were found in Libya’s desert close to the border with Chad, according to the Libyan authorities on Wednesday.
In a statement, the Ambulance Service said the bodies were found inside a pickup truck 310 kilometers south of Kufra city.
It said the truck is believed to have broken down in the desert and the people inside were left to die.
The bodies were discovered by a truck driver travelling through the desert and were recovered on Tuesday about 320 km southwest of Kufra and 120 km from the border with Chad, according to news agency Reuters.
Migrants, especially from Sub-Saharan countries, use Libya as a crossing point on their way to Europe where they cross the Libyan desert in a dangerous route before taking another deadly route over the Mediterranean in their search for a better and safer life.
