(The Muslim News): 31 Palestinians were killed and 56 others injured by indiscriminate bombings by Israeli Defence Forces in Gaza Strip in the last 24 hours, according to Ministry of Health. This brings to total number of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces since 7 October 2023 to at least 35,303 and 79,261 injured in Gaza, according to Ministry of Health.

Israeli bombardment from the air, land, and sea continues to be reported across much of the Gaza Strip, resulting in further civilian casualties, displacement, and destruction of houses and other civilian infrastructure. Ground incursions and heavy fighting also continue to be reported, especially in Jabalya and eastern Rafah. As of 17 May, Rafah Crossing remains closed, reports OCHA. Kerem Shalom Crossing is operational, but the prevailing security and logistical conditions are hampering humanitarian aid deliveries at scale.

On 17 May, in parallel to reports on first shipments arriving at the new floating dock off Gaza’s shore, OCHA spokesperson Jens Laerke said that “any and all aid into Gaza is welcome by any route. However, getting aid to people in need, into and across Gaza, cannot and should not depend on a floating dock.”
Israeli attacks killed 31 people and injured 56 others in the last 24 hours,” the statement said.

At least eight Palestinians were killed and scores more injured in intensive Israeli airstrikes on refugee camps in the Gaza Strip overnight and Friday morning, amid reports of battles between Palestinian resistance groups and Israeli forces in Rafah, where the Israeli military bulldozed several houses after forcibly evicting residents.

It did not provide details on the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Artillery shelling targeted areas west of Jabalia camp and the vicinity of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia, an Anadolu correspondent reported.

According to eyewitnesses, the Israeli military besieged Beit Hanoun on Friday, preventing several displaced families from leaving.

They also reported intense battles between resistance groups and Israeli forces in northern areas of Gaza.

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) announced on Friday that the Israeli military actions in Rafah forced 30,000 more people to flee.

According to a statement issued by UNRWA, Gazans are still being forcibly displaced, and “since the military offensive on Rafah began on May 6, over 630,000 people have been forced to flee the area.”
